How to use it

  1. Pick the files to compress

    Drag files in or choose them from your device, several at a time. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF are all supported, and you can paste an image straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V.

  2. Choose an output format and quality

    Pick WebP (the safe default for the web), AVIF (smallest files), JPEG, PNG, or keep the original format. Then either set quality as a number — 80 by default — or switch to target-size mode, enter a size in kilobytes, and let the encoder find the quality that fits.

  3. Check before and after, then download

    Every file shows its original size, its new size, and the percentage saved. Download them one by one or grab the whole batch as a ZIP. If a result is not tight enough, lower the quality and run it again.

Limits worth knowing

  • Compression runs on a background queue. Closing the tab does not lose the job, but you need to return to this page to download the results.
  • Files per batch and maximum file size depend on your plan. Without an account you get a smaller daily quota and a lower size ceiling.
  • AVIF produces the smallest files but takes noticeably longer to encode than WebP. For batches of dozens of images, WebP is usually the better trade.
  • Compression is lossy by default — a file that has already been through several compression passes loses a little more detail each time you compress it again.
  • Photographic PNGs usually shrink dramatically as WebP or AVIF, but line art and flat-colour graphics can come out larger after conversion.
  • EXIF metadata and GPS coordinates are always stripped from the output. Keep a copy of the original if you need the camera data.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression visibly hurt quality?

At the default quality of 80, ordinary photographs typically shrink by 60-80% with no difference the eye can pick up at normal viewing size. For work that gets zoomed — product shots where customers inspect fabric texture, say — push quality to 90 and compare the before and after sizes shown on the page.

WebP or AVIF?

WebP is the safe choice for general use: every browser still in circulation supports it, and it is roughly 25-35% smaller than JPEG at matching quality. AVIF is about another 20-30% smaller again but slower to encode, which makes it better suited to images that stay in place for a long time — a homepage hero — than to large batches.

Can I hit an exact file size?

Yes. Switch the mode from "set quality" to "target file size" and enter a number in kilobytes. The encoder adjusts quality until the file fits under that ceiling. This is the mode to use for upload forms with hard limits, such as job applications or government portals that cap files at 200 KB.

How long are uploaded files kept on the server?

Files submitted for compression are held only long enough to process the job and let you download the result. They do not become hosted images in your library. If you need a permanent shareable link, use the image hosting page instead.

Can I compress many files and download them in one go?

Yes. Once the batch finishes, a single button downloads everything as a ZIP. The number of files per batch depends on your plan.
