Understanding Unlisted / Private / Public

The three image visibility levels, plus EXIF stripping for privacy

Every image has one of three visibility levels, chosen at upload and changeable later from the dashboard (members).

How the three levels differ

  • Unlisted (default) — viewable only by people with the link; never listed publicly, no search, links are randomized
  • Private — only the signed-in owner can view (account required); best for personal files
  • Public — openly shareable; for images meant to spread
Warning: Unlisted is not encryption — anyone who obtains the link (e.g. via re-sharing) can view it. Use Private for genuinely sensitive content.

EXIF/GPS stripping

Phone photos embed GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device details in metadata. Uppic strips this by default before serving. To keep it (e.g. photography portfolios needing camera data), untick the option at upload.

Changing the level later

  1. 1Go to Dashboard → Images and open the image
  2. 2Change the visibility level and save — it applies immediately
